The rules of play for the District 5 Shooting Sports-3 Position Smallbore Rifle contest have been released. The competition is scheduled for April 6, 2024 and will be held at the Trinity County Fairgrounds, located at 2694 E US Highway 287, Groveton. You can find more information on the event page here.
Rules released for Texas 4-H Virtual Fishing Skill-a-thons
The 2024 Texas 4-H Virtual Reel ‘Em In Fishing Skill-a-thon has released the rules for both the Spring and Summer tournaments. Registration for the Spring tournament opens on February 1, 2024, and the tournament begins on March 15. 2023 National 4-H Conference Delegation
Congratulations to Dylan Lynch, Jasper County, who has been selected to represent Texas 4-H at the 2023 National 4-H Conference. Dylan will travel to Arlington, VA in April 2023.
National 4-H Conference is the pinnacle experience in 4-H Civic Engagement, providing the opportunity for young people to connect, learn, engage, lead and impact their communities, nation and world. At the conference, delegates will have the opportunity to participate in round table discussions and present to federal partner agencies along with the opportunity for delegates to engage with their U.S. Senators and Representatives.
2023 Record Book Training
A Record Book Workshop for agents, parents and youth is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7th via Zoom beginning at 5:30 p.m. Information on how to create a Record Book, tips for successful judging, and use of positive phrases will be provided. District 5 Bite-sized 4-H for Agents – January
The January Bite-Sized 4-H program for new and tenured agents is scheduled for Friday, January 20th from 9am to noon at the Nacogdoches County Extension office. Idea sharing will be on Major Stock Show Management tips, and our topics will include information on county, district and state Roundup, contest committees, volunteer recognition, major stock shows and validation, and school absences. We will have lunch at Clear Springs for those wishing to stay from noon to 1 p.m. As a reminder, new agents are required to attend this on-boarding session.

District 5 4-H Food Challenge
Rules for the District Food Challenge have been released and are available on the District website.
This contest challenges teams of 4-H members to create a dish using only a predetermined set of ingredients. From these ingredients, team members must identify and prepare the dish, then make a presentation about it to the judges.
The objectives of this contest include:
- Provide opportunities for participants to exhibit their knowledge and skill when preparing and presenting a dish
- Provide opportunities for participants to learn from other team members
- Promote teamwork
- Give participants opportunities for public speaking
- Provide leadership opportunities
