GEAR: Get Excited About Robotics
For those new to our 4-H robotics project, GEAR is a standalone contest format that is produced by GEAR Robotics. Each year, they create and publish a new game that is released in February. Texas 4-H has been allowed to adopt/alter their rules a bit to fit our program. So please keep that in mind when entering a 4-H GEAR contest vs. a non-4-H GEAR contest (like Texas Tech).
Our version of the general rules is posted here. Note that our general rules will be updated soon to match changes in GEAR’s, and that counties hosting tournaments are allowed to customize these rules to best fit their needs. So before you enter any contest, please verify the rules being used and if any modifications have been made.
As mentioned in an earlier email, you can order GEAR game mats directly from ColdFire signs in San Antonio.
For those interested in acquiring the vinyl decal used in this contest, please contact CC Creations and ask to speak to Kayla Whitfield for pricing and shipping options (phone: 979-693-9664 x671). Ask for the Texas 4-H Robotics Sumo Ring Decal. I put together this short video on how I adhered a decal onto an MDF substructure.
